I began the morning by decorating two zapallos (pumpkin like foods that are native) and setting them on my porch for all to see. My neighbors were extremely confused, but I explained how we decorated pumpkins as part of Halloween. They still thought I was pretty weird, but they think that just about every day whenever I am doing something so I am used to that by now. After a while the chickens started eating the ‘hair’ so I had to put them in my house, but at least everyone got to enjoy them for a while!
Competition #1: How many corn kernels are in the jar?! I played this game with more than the kids. I went around to my neighbor’s houses and asked all of the adults too because I wanted to teach them a little Halloween fun as well. How many do you think?!
Competition #4: ‘Trick or Treat’ Off. Yes, it was just as noisy as it sounds. I taught the children how trick or treating is in the states, and even though we could not go house to house, we still had a blast staying at my house. They divided into three groups. One group was outside of my house, and the other two groups were inside my house ready to hand out the candy. We waited. We heard the knock. We opened the door, “TRICK OR TREAT!!!”. You are lucky the video will not load here because it was ear shattering! All of the groups took turns, ‘trick or treating’ and handing out the candy until they had gone various times, and I had (almost) gotten my cheesy share of celebrating Halloween. Two of the groups were SO loud, and they had to have a ‘trick or treat’ off between themselves, however, I could STILL not determine the winner and my ears were about to explode so I called it a tie!
